Summer Fling Breakup | Some Type of Beauty

How to Successfully End That Summer Fling

So, you're having a summer fling are you? Awesome! Summer flings are a great way to forget about life's troubles and remind us that we all deserve to have a little fun. I mean, the entire movie Grease was basically about one long, too long if you ask me, summer fling.

? Summer loving had me a blast, oh yeah. Summer loving happened so fast, I met a girl crazy for me, Met a boy cute as can be, Summer days drifting away, To, uh oh, those summer nights ?

Is that song stuck in your head yet? You're welcome. But, what do you do when the summer is almost over? How can you successfully end your summer romance? If you've ventured away from your hometown for the summer, you've got it made. The ideal way to put an end to a summer romance where the chances of ever seeing the person again is slim to none is to simply be up front and honest with the lucky guy or girl whom you're having the fling with.

So say some version of this,

Look insert person's name here, this summer with you has been insert adjective. I wish I didn't have to go back toinsert name of city, state, or country you're returning to. But, I have to go. I have to insert excuse here. When I look back on life, I will always remember the insert adjectivetimes we had together. Take care of yourself.

Then run like hell before they have time to respond. What? It's not like you're ever going to see them again.Ending a summer fling where the chances of stumbling into the person you're having the fling with is very likely is a trickier situation and should be handled with great care and consideration. You don't want it to be painfully awkward every time you see them, nor do you want there to be any hard feelings or animosity. So, what do you do?

Take them to get ice cream. You do this for a number of reasons:

1) Ice cream is delicious and everybody likes it.
2) Everybody stuffs their face with ice cream after a breakup. You'll be saving them a trip to the grocery store. How considerate of you!
3) It's a public place. You're chances of avoiding a "scene" during a breakup are higher if it's done in a public space. Everybody knows this.

4) Ice cream is full of sugar. Sugar produces serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that makes people feel happy. Therefore, your summer fling will be less sad over the breakup if they are eating ice cream. It's science.

Remember to tell your fling how much you've enjoyed spending time with them, but that you really need to focus on work, school, your dog, whatever. Then wish them the best of luck and run like hell.
