7 Ways to Stay Fit In the Winter

It's easy to get in a fitness rut in the winter. With all of the holiday food and the decrease in physical activity, it's normal for a few unwanted pounds to accumulate. Health is always in season, and winter is the perfect time to get fit and sculpt the perfect summer body. Since you're spending more time inside, there are fewer things to distract you from your goals. Also, the fact that you're completely clothed and covered while you work off that weight is an awesome added bonus.

Here are 7 Ways to Stay Fit in the Winter:

 1. Workout From Home

We spend more time indoors in the winter than we do in any other season. Use that time to break out those good old fashion workout DVDs. They're old school, but as effective as you make them. After all, you get from your workout what you put into it. Yoga and Pilates are also great workout options that you can do from the comfort of your own house.

2. Break the Routine

Change it up and try a few new fitness classes. Groupon always has great deals on class packages. That way you can try a studio for a while without committing to it. ClassPass is also an awesome way to add some diversity to your routine. Once you sign up, you get access to thousands of fitness classes around the country, so you're never bored.

3. Winter Jog

I know it's cold, but jogging in the winter can be great if you can get past the weather. Bundle up and head out to a serene area. It's a good way to clear your head and take a moment to improve yourself mentally as well as physically.

4. Set Goals and Earn Rewards

Decide on a fitness regimen and set a reasonable goals for down the road. When you reach those goals, reward yourself with a new outfit, a day at the spa, or a huge slice of cheesecake. You've earned it.

5. Mood Board

Collecting inspiring quotes and photos and creating a mood board is a great way to stay on track, especially when you're surrounded by winter comfort foods. Hang the board somewhere where you'll see it everyday (your kitchen. Trust me.) and keep thinking positive. You can do this!

6. Find a Workout Buddy

Working out is way easier when you have a workout buddy to suffer with you. You will both keep each other accountable, and you'll be able to celebrate together when you reach goals. Fitness can be a struggle. It's good to have someone there so that you don't feel alone.

7. Stay Active

If Netflix binges burned calories, we'd be a nation of very tiny people. Unfortunately, it doesn't and we have to take matters into our own hands. Try to stay active during your TV sessions. Don't let yourself melt into the couch. Pull out an exercise ball, do a wall sit, or just take a seat on the floor and stretch it out for a while. Every little thing counts.
